Summary
The Sun Valley Watershed Multi-benefit project is located in the San Fernando Valley, 14 miles northwest of Downtown LA, currently under the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles County, CA USA. It encompasses the communities of Sun Valley and North Hollywood in the City of Los Angeles, covering an area of 4.4sq miles and six miles length. It is bounded by the San Gabriel Mountains on the north, the Verdugo Mountains on the east, the Simi Hills on the west and the Santa Monica Mountains on the south. The area functions as a sub-basin of the wider Los Angeles River Watershed providing water to the Sun Fernando Valley. One part of the watershed has a pretty good underwater basin and discharges the water into the LA River, whereas another part does not have clear operating underwater resource basins. The area is covered by sandy soils that easily infiltrate the water into the underground basins and rock and gravel deposits that originate from the San Gabriel Mountains.
