Summary
Ucuquer II is the first operational wind farm in central Chile with ultra-low wind speed turbines and an installed capacity of 10.5 MW. The largest shareholder of the project is the Chinese company Envision, with an 85% stake, followed by Vicente&Roberto Izquierdo, with a 15% stake. Envision is also the provider of the equipment that is produced and assembled in China in an efficient assembly process that combines all the parts to be assembled within a small radius. The in-house technology used in this wind farm is designed to work with low speed winds, which allows the energy production to be closer to populated areas in central Chile, and as such reduce transmission losses and environmental impacts. Ucuquer II became operational in August 2014 and is a registered project at the United Nations Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism.
